This year’s Pennsylvania Farm Show kicks off Saturday, with plenty of new items among the 24 acres of indoor agricultural spectacle.
Never fear – Farm Show staples like fried cheese cubes and milk shakes will still be under the gargantuan roof of the Farm Show Complex. But so will a few new edible acts, like apple cider slushies and bacon on a stick.
The building’s executive director, Pat Kerwin, said new attractions also include a wine grape stomping contest and a polo demonstration.
“But the thing that seems to be getting a lot of attention which is somewhat odd in my opinion is Cow Patty Bingo,” said Kerwin. A short description indicates cattle will place the bets on a giant bingo card.
State Agriculture Secretary George Greig said he’ll be one of the featured acts for the Celebrity Cow Milking Contest, along with state Senator Elder Vogel (R-Beaver).
“It’s kind of a rivalry between Senator Vogel and myself,” said Greig. “We’re both old dairy farmers.”
Last year’s Farm Show attendance count suggests herd mentality isn’t exclusive to quadrupeds – more than 400,000 people came out. Grieg said his agency expects roughly the same this year.
The show lasts through Saturday, January 12.
