Pennsylvania legislation would allow teens to get vaccinated without parental consent
Currently, children under the age of 18 need a parent or legal guardian’s permission to receive most kinds of medical treatment, including vaccines.
The so-called “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act,” is among more than 40 similar proposals across the country aimed at prohibiting athletes who identify as transgender from competing in sports based on their gender identity.
The bill gives a school district or private school sole authority to decide whether to conduct sports during the 2020-21 school year, including games, scrimmages and other in-person extracurricular activities. It also gives them the power to determine safety protocol and crowd limits.
The board voted 25-5 on Friday to allow high school football, soccer, tennis, field hockey and other fall sports to go on as planned. There was no discussion.
