Reading Riverfront Park was once a popular gathering spot and swimming destination in the summer, but complaints of noise and littering prompted the city to limit access to it.

A group of nonprofits and county governments are collaborating on the construction of a continuous 120-mile trail along the Schuylkill River that will connect Philadelphia and Frackville in Schuylkill County. 

Starting Monday, the lights will be switched off and taken down as work gets underway on a $2.1 million replacement project expected to last eight months.
