Congress did not extend United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service authority to allow all students to eat school meals free of charge this school year, a choice that will effect around ten million children this school year, according to Forbes.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is eliminating universal free meals for kids, a program that was put in place early in the pandemic.

Pennsylvania families should begin receiving benefits next month to make up for missed school meals related to COVID-19 closures this school year.

Advocates say there have been close to 100,000 inquiries through the state’s P-EBT portal and call line about missing benefits.
