Every school district will receive $100,000 as a base grant and charter school entities will receive $70,000.

With just a year and a half left in office, Gov. Tom Wolf’s primary focus will be convincing the Republican-controlled Legislature to modernize how state aid is distributed to Pennsylvania’s public schools….

School districts must use at least 20% of the money to address learning loss from the pandemic as well as support the “social, emotional, and academic needs of underrepresented students.”

An average shrinking district saw funding increase by $3,200 per student over the past three decades, according to a January report from Public Citizens for Children and Youth, a nonprofit led by a member of former Gov. Ed Rendell’s cabinet.

The analysis is the latest salvo in a yearslong battle to address inequities in the state’s public school system, one that could intensify as the case moves toward trial.
