The move triggers a series of steps to send the referral to the U.S. attorney’s office, leaving the Justice Department to decide whether it will pursue a prosecution in the case.
“Mr. Bannon will comply with our investigation or he will face the consequences,” the committee’s chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said.
“The Select Committee will use every tool at its disposal to get the information it seeks, and witnesses who try to stonewall the Select Committee will not succeed.”
The charges are the first in a wide-ranging, three-year investigation into possible fraud by Trump, his company and his associates.
