The victims ranged from age 20 to 65. Some of them were shopping at the store; some worked there. One was a police officer who arrived to help.
The suspect is from Arvada, a small city between Denver and Boulder. He was wounded during the shooting.
Early witness accounts to local media highlight the sheer confusion and fear that erupted in and outside of the grocery store as the shooting began.
Over the course of the hunt, at least four people died searching throughout the Rockies for the trove, which Fenn said contained about $2 million worth of gold and precious gems.
