House votes to halt PennDOT plan to toll bridges for repairs

A bill to void a plan that would add tolls on nine Pennsylvania bridges is closer to passage after approval in the state House. State representatives voted 125 to 74 on Tuesday for a proposal that would require legislative approval of concrete proposals to add tolls.

Pittsburgh-area towns sue to block tolling on I-79 bridges

Three Pittsburgh-area municipalities sued Friday to block Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration from adding tolls to an Interstate 79 bridge, saying the administration violated procedures in getting to the advanced stage of considering the idea.

Republicans in Pennsylvania’s Senate are trying to make Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration start over on its plans to toll up to nine major bridges. They approved a bill Tuesday to require PennDOT to first secure approval from the Legislature.

Lawmakers unhappy about tolls reminded of law they passed

Tolls would be between $1 and $2, probably both ways, raise about $2.2 billion and last from the start of construction in 2023 for three or four years until construction is finished, Gramian told the Appropriations Committee.
