What to look for on Smart Talk Monday, September 8, 2014:

A firestorm of criticism followed President Obama's remarks two weeks ago that his administration had not developed a strategy to fight the brutal terrorist group Islamic State.  Since then, Obama met with his NATO counterparts and now plans to announce more details in how to "degrade and destroy" ISIS later this week.

ISIS has marauded its way through Syria and Iraq killing thousands along the way, paying special attention to non-Muslims who refuse to convert.   Two kidnapped journalists were beheaded by the extremist group as well.

ISIS is just one of the dangerous foreign policy challenges the president faces.

Russia's incursion into Ukraine, conflict between Israel and Hamas, and war in Syria all add up to perhaps the most tense time in years.

Monday's Smart Talk examines the world's response and the U.S. role in that response.

Appearing on the program are Dr. Andrea Lopez, Associate Professor of Political Science at Susquehanna University, Dr. Christopher Dolan, Professor of Politics and Director of Global Studies at Lebanon Valley College, and Dr. Jeff Bosworth, Chair of the Department of History, Philosophy, & Political Science, Mansfield University.

Could the guests comment on the last 6 years of Republican tearing down the President (ie. If he said the sky is blue they would argue) diminishing the appearance of America power.

I find it to be a complete cop out that your guest's state the burden is on the news consumer to scientifically examine the news flow.
NPR reported a very different story of the events at Benghazi than what the US State department did.
I don't have the resources of NPR or The State dept. How can I fact check global events let alone local news?
    Thank you, Jody

    Scott:

One of the points that the media do not address and perhaps your guests can try to answer the following.

Where do these extremist militant groups, such as Isis, get their cash, handle their cash, keep their cash and how do we as American, and other western nations, contribute to their cash reserves?

I have not heard Putin and Russia explained as well as Dr Bosworth did today in any other media. What a great answer, very well spoken! I think even the comparison to Regan is not offensive, but actually very helpful. Thanks for having him on, and I hope to hear more in the future.
