Written by Fred Vigeant, Director of Programming and Promotions for TV and Radio | Jun 20, 2019 10:58 AM

Morning Edition, Here and Now, All Things Considered and Marketplace will still broadcast on Thursday July 4.  The following list of programs will broadcast in place of Smart Talk, 1A, To The Best of Our Knowledge and Fresh Air:

July 4 at 9:00am & 7:00pm - American Anthem: The Special - Hosted by Elizabeth Blair and Tom Cole from NPR's Arts Desk, American Anthem: The Special highlights standout stories from NPR's "American Anthem" series. The special will weave together the creation, popularization, and evolution of a selection of songs about our shared national identity as Americans. Songs like Fight the Power, This Land is Your Land, Dixie, and The Times They Are a Changin' were all written as a response to a moment or a movement and grew into an anthem. We put those songs and others meant to serve as a uniting rallying cry, or way to push back against politics and division in conversation with each other in this special. This special also repeats Sunday July 7 at 7:00pm as part of WITF Presents.

July 4 at 10:00am - Let's Be Frank: TBTL Salutes The Great American Hot Dog - Join hosts of the podcast Too Beautiful To Live Luke Burbank and Andrew Walsh over a sizzling grill as they celebrate one of America's most beloved and most ridiculed foods: The Hot Dog. The Splendid Table's Francis Lam joins them to explain his own personal love affair with the tubular steak, plus Luke and Andrew head to a minor league ballpark to see if they'd make good hot dog vendors. They also try to hunt down the best veggie alternative to the hot dog, and dip into the heated debate over proper (and improper) hot dog condiments. Enjoy a mouthwatering take on hot dogs and more.

July 4 at 11:00am & 11:00pm - The Capitol Steps: Politics Takes a Holiday - Now in their 38th year, join us for political satire with The Capitol Steps

July 4 at 2:00pm & 10:00pm - To Honor and Inspire: U.S. Military Bands Special - Andrea Blain hosts this patriotic new special, featuring performances by the United States Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine bands.  You will be moved and uplifted by an hour of music, including marches by Sousa, Jewell and Gould, and classical works by Copland, Saint-Saens and Holst.

July 4 at 3:00pm - Let Freedom Sing - Join Julie Amacher for an hour of traditional, patriotic choral music performed by the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra providing inspiration and celebration for Independence Day.

July 4 at 8:00pm-10:00pm - A Capitol Fourth - The 39th annual edition features: Grammy Award-winning music legend Carole King with the Broadway cast of the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning musical BEAUTIFUL starring Vanessa Carlton; multi-award winning electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling; acclaimed Tony-nominated singer-songwriter and actress Keala Settle (THE GREATEST SHOWMAN); multi-platinum recording artist and star of television, film and the Broadway stage Vanessa Williams; double ACM winner, CMA and Grammy nominee with more than 12 million in RIAA certified sales and early member of Pandora's Billionaires Club Lee Brice; Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum-selling singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat with her new band Gone West; five-time Grammy Award-winning Gospel vocalist extraordinaire Yolanda Adams; 2019 AMERICAN IDOL winner Laine Hardy; singing sensation Angelica Hale (AMERICA'S GOT TALENT); and this year's winner of THE VOICE (Season 16), Maelyn Jarmon, performing the "National Anthem;"" with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly. Hosted by John Stamos.  This is an audio simulcast of the PBS special airing at the same time on WITF TV.
