Baseball and music come together in a collaboration between members of Fresh Young Fellows, REM, Dream Syndicate and other bands in The Baseball Project. In 2007 Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, The Minus 5, R.E.M.) and Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate, Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Gutterball) got together to write songs about their shared passion of baseball. They recruited drummer Linda Pitmon (Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Zuzu’s Petals) and R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Mike Mills to the team it turned into a full-fledged touring group.

The songs consist of anything from reminiscences of childhood and baseball cards, to songs that use baseball as a metaphor and character sketches of figures in baseball.

Their shows originally drew fans of the musicians the bands they've worked with, but increasingly they've seen baseball fans coming to their shows. "We get a lot of people showing up at the shows wearing all their baseball gear," says Scott McCaughey, "and we also get people showing up with R.E.M. records for us to sign."

The Baseball Project is playing at the Abe Lincoln Wyndham Hotel in Reading on Friday, 7/25 and then in Harrisburg on Saturday, 7/26 at Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center.
