aired; September 30, 2026

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra is marking its 80th anniversary with a 2026–2027 season featuring nine concerts celebrating eight decades of music and community in Lancaster County. The season ranges from Queen’s greatest hits to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, with highlights including Handel’s Messiah by Candlelight, A Broadway New Year, a world premiere of Austin Wintory’s Interactive Concerto for Guitar and She’s Got Soul with Capathia Jenkins. On The Spark, we’ll talk with Lancaster Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Guy McIntosh about the anniversary season, the musicians and guest artists coming to Lancaster and how the orchestra is looking toward its next 80 years.

The season opens September 24 with The Music of Queen, featuring Broadway and West End star MiG Ayesa alongside the LSO and a full rock band. Other early-season concerts include Festivals & Folklore in October, featuring pianist Jon Nakamatsu and guest conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson, and From Solitude to Triumph in November, with Sphinx Competition winner Amaryn Olmeda and guest conductor Brian DeMaris. We’ll also talk about the role the Lancaster Symphony has played in the community since 1947 and what goes into creating an anniversary season with five guest conductors and a wide range of musical styles.
