What can filmmakers create when they have a limited amount of time, a unique challenge and a community of artists working alongside them? On The Spark, we’ll talk with Michael Martone, founder and president of CineSpark, along with writer and multimedia artist McCaffrey Martone and filmmaker Darien Reimold, about CineSpark’s efforts to bring independent filmmakers and other creatives together in Central Pennsylvania. The platform uses the 48-hour film format to challenge artists to collaborate, experiment and showcase new work, while creating opportunities for filmmakers at different stages of their careers to learn from one another.
We’ll discuss some of CineSpark’s recent and upcoming projects, including its community collaboration film Sun Set on the Chapel, which brought more than 20 artists together, as well as The Nightmare Tapes horror film festival, its winter workshop and the upcoming Love Tapes project. We’ll also talk about what it’s like to make films under creative constraints, building a local filmmaking community and creating opportunities for emerging filmmakers like Reimold, a 19-year-old Penn State York film production student and founder of Crying Light Studios. The CineSpark team also plans to film during the conversation, giving us a chance to see some of the filmmaking process firsthand.
