Dance, rhythm and cultural connection can all play a role in building healthier communities. On The Spark, we’ll talk with Lark Daniel, Artistic Director of Dwennimmen African Dance Community, about the organization’s work using traditional African dance and drumming to promote health, wellness, cultural awareness and community connection. Daniel, who has studied African dance for more than 30 years and teaches West African Dance at Dickinson College, founded Dwennimmen to preserve, share and celebrate African history, heritage and culture through performing arts and wellness events.
We’ll also discuss Dwennimmen’s annual Soulfit Health and Wellness Festival, returning October 24, 2026, at Sara Lindemuth School in Harrisburg, as well as the organization’s other community wellness programs, weekly African dance classes and educational work with schools and community groups. Daniel will share how movement can be accessible to everyone and how dance can help bring people together while creating opportunities to learn about and celebrate African culture.
