Accessibility at Amusement Parks: Understanding ADA Accommodations and Invisible Disabilities

As families head to amusement parks this summer, accessibility remains an important part of creating an enjoyable experience for every guest. On The Spark, we spoke with Rocco Iacullo, staff attorney with Disability Rights Pennsylvania, about how amusement parks are working to accommodate visitors with disabilities and why those accommodations are not one-size-fits-all.
Our conversation explored how ADA policies have evolved, the unique challenges faced by people with invisible disabilities, and why guests shouldn’t make assumptions about who needs accessibility services. We also discussed ride transfer policies, safety considerations, and a recent case involving a child who was reportedly denied the use of a mobility scooter at a local amusement park.
