David Morrison of the Historic Harrisburg Association joins The Spark to explore why 1926 stands out as one of the most important years in the city’s history.

A century ago, Harrisburg was experiencing a period of tremendous growth and optimism. Morrison highlights the institutions, buildings, neighborhoods, and cultural organizations that are celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2026, many of which continue to shape life in the capital city today.

The conversation examines the opening of William Penn High School, the founding of organizations such as the Art Association of Harrisburg and Harrisburg Community Theatre, the construction of prominent Front Street mansions, and the lasting influence of the City Beautiful movement. Morrison also discusses the people behind these developments, including civic leaders and visionaries whose efforts transformed Harrisburg’s infrastructure, architecture, and cultural identity.

From historic homes and public spaces to arts organizations that remain active today, this segment offers a look back at a year whose impact is still visible throughout Harrisburg 100 years later.
