A new exhibition at the Cumberland County Historical Society is highlighting LGBTQ+ experiences and their place within the broader American story.

“Freedom to Be: LGBTQ+ Journeys in the American Story” opens May 1 at the History On High Museum Shop in Carlisle and will remain on display through June 20. The exhibit explores identity, history, and personal stories through a local and national lens.

On The Spark, Museum Director Sydney Ernst discusses the inspiration behind the exhibition, the importance of inclusive storytelling in museums, and how historical institutions are working to preserve and share a wider range of community experiences.
