Pennsylvania’s newest state park is unlike any other—because much of it lies underground.
Laurel Caverns in Fayette County has officially been designated as a state park, marking a unique addition to the system and expanding outdoor recreation opportunities in a new way. Known for its expansive cave system, the site offers both guided underground experiences and traditional above-ground exploration.
On The Spark, DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn and Park Manager Corie Eckman discuss what led to the designation, what makes the park stand out, and how it fits into the state’s broader outdoor recreation strategy. They also highlight what visitors can expect and the balance required to protect a sensitive natural environment while welcoming the public.
