Each year on May 1, Law Day offers a chance to reflect on the role of law in American society and why it continues to matter.

Established in 1958, Law Day is recognized nationwide with events that highlight the Constitution, individual rights, and the legal system. In Central Pennsylvania, local bar associations and legal professionals often mark the occasion through school visits, public programs, and community discussions.

This year’s theme, “The Rule of Law and the American Dream,” focuses on the principle that no one is above the law and how that foundation helps protect freedoms and opportunities.

On The Spark, Pennsylvania Bar Association Executive Director Matthew Holliday discusses how Law Day is being observed, why it remains relevant, and how efforts across the state aim to connect communities with a better understanding of the legal system.
