In recognition of Women’s History Month, The Spark spoke with Judge Lori Dumas about the growing role of women in Pennsylvania’s judiciary. Elected to the Commonwealth Court in 2021, Judge Dumas brings decades of experience, including nearly 20 years on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. The conversation comes as new data shows women now make up about 34% of active judges statewide, with increasing representation at the appellate level. Debra Todd also made history as the first woman to serve as Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, highlighting the continued progress of women in the state’s legal system.
