Hi, I’m Leigh Horner, chair of the board that brings you WITF TV, WITF FM and Pennon Education.
Tom Baldrige
And I’m Tom Baldrige, interim president and CEO, and I hope your spring is off to a wonderful start. Spring is an exciting time at WITF and Pennon Education, full of new programs, initiatives and ways to connect with your community. Today, Leigh and I are excited to give you a preview of what’s coming and to thank YOU for helping make it all happen.
To start, we’re thrilled to share that the first episode of our newest podcast, “Cloth of the Nation,” will launch on Wednesday, April 8. Hosted by veterans Dale and Jan Hamby. This podcast will feature honest conversations about military service, life after the uniform and continued service to the community. You can listen to “Cloth of the Nation” on witf.org, or tune in through your favorite podcast platform.

Next, as someone who loves exploring the world, I am especially excited by the upcoming trip offered through WITF Travel, which is an “All Creatures Great and Small” themed tour through England. This includes stops in London, Cambridge, York and the Yorkshire Dales from September 7 through September 13. If you haven’t watched this popular MASTERPIECE series yet, I encourage you to check it out and see some of the beautiful locations that this tour will visit.
Our trip includes accommodations, transportation, a number of meals, and professional tour guides. Plus, you’ll be accompanied by our very own Shelley Hershey and Fred Vigeant.

If you’d rather watch the adventure unfold than live it, we have options for you too! Through WITF TV, “The American Revolution” by Ken Burns is back by popular demand. You can catch it on Monday nights at 9 p.m. beginning April the 20.
We’ll also encore the first season of “Turn: Washington’s Spies” in April on Thursdays at 9 p.m., in advance of the broadcast premiere of season two this summer.

Summer also marks the beginning of opportunities for learning outside of the classroom. Our Pennon Education team is preparing a series of themed summer camps centered on inquiry-based learning for students in grades two through six. Campers will engage in STEM activities, career exploration and digital creation using our professional podcasting equipment. But that’s just a glimpse of the summer fun we have in store. Please visit our website to check out everything we’re offering this season.

Finally, we’re approaching our Spring Membership Campaign, which is one of our largest campaigns of the year, happening April 10 through the 17.
Your support during this time is what enables us to continue offering the impactful programs and content you’ve come to love. Since the funding rescission last year, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support, and for the first time in our history, we’ve topped 30,000 members. While that momentum is indeed inspiring, we still have a long road ahead. Our Spring Membership Drive begins next week and we are once again asking for your help.
Please consider making an additional contribution to support all that you value and all that you can get each time you turn on WITF.
Leigh Horner
From all of us here at WITF and Pennon Education, thank you for being part of this work! Your generosity truly means so much to us, and it’s what allows us to keep showing up for you and our community.
