This Braver Angels segment centers on courageous citizenship through the lens of Terry Webb, a co-founder of the Braver Angels Lancaster Alliance, which later expanded into four additional counties and became the Lower Susquehanna Alliance. Webb discusses what drew her to the organization and why she remains committed to its mission of restoring civil discourse at a time she sees as marked by toxic politics and fractured leadership. With a background as an educator, pastoral counselor, and seminary-trained clinician, her lifelong work has emphasized reflective, nonjudgmental listening—an approach that closely aligns with Braver Angels’ core practices. She helped pioneer local efforts such as the “Agreeing to Disagree Agreeably” Sunday school program in 2020 and served as the first Blue chairperson for the Lancaster Alliance, regularly participating in debates and community activities. Drawing on both her professional experience and her faith tradition, Webb reflects on the responsibility of citizens to speak with conviction while listening with respect, offering real-world examples of what courageous citizenship looks like in practice and how individuals can continue to model it even after stepping back from formal leadership roles.
