The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 866-366-3723, uses a risk-based inspection reporting process for restaurants and other food handlers.

Jersey Mike’s Sub Shop, 3225 N. 5th Street Highway, Reading, December 7. Pass. 3-compartment sink lacking proper air gap. Gap should be twice the distance of the circumference of the drain pipes above the flood plain of the drain. Automated paper towel dispenser/sensor not functioning properly. Upon inquiry, batteries replaced multiple times and temporarily work for brief period of time; however, failed to work during visit. Paper towel roll available for drying hands.

La Eterna Primavera Ice Cream Shop, 3045 N. 5th Street Highway, Reading, December 7. Pass. Food facility has lost its certified supervisory employee over 3 months ago and has not replaced the certified employee as required. Awaiting certification for posting of certificate.

Reading Company Booster Club, Inc., 2100 Georgia Rd. Temple, December 7. Pass. Utensils not stored with handles up to prevent contamination of food touching part of utensil. Handwashing signage missing in ladies’ room.

Rothenberger Meats, 2934 N. 5th Street Highway, Reading, December 6. Pass. Fan guards in walk-in refrigerator are dusty. Dunnage rack cover is soiled.

Smoketown Meats, 2934 N. 5th Street Highway, Reading, December 6. Pass. Food dispensing utensil in bulk food bins observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container.

Sunnyside Pastries, 2934 N. 5th Street Highway, Reading, December 6. Pass. Employees’ beverages containers were observed in a food preparation area. Undercounter refrigerator requires an internal thermometer. The handwash sink was not accessible at all times for employee use due to box of supplies sitting in sink.

Beaver Dam Produce, 845b Woodland Rd. Wyomissing, December 5. Pass. Scoop being stored in the ice for smoothies with handle touching the ice. Corrected. Some prepackaged food items (dips, salsa mix) are not labeled properly with the ingredient statement. Plastic spoons are not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched when dispensed. Corrected.
