Bagel Boutique, 6581 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, Aug. 28. Fail. Person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this noncompliant inspection. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours not being date-marked or labeled with common name. Two pitchers were observed in the hand-wash sink, indicating uses other than hand-washing. Observed the following: Dried food debris on the slicer; food debris on the chicken tenderizer; a storage bin with food debris in the bottom contained a knife, two can openers and a lid; corrected on site. Observed old food debris on bain-marie interior and gaskets containing cream cheese in need of deep cleaning.

Brad’s Pizza & Subs, 1548 Spring Road, Carlisle, complaint, Aug. 27. Pass. Ceiling tiles were observed with dirt accumulation, and some were sagging or collapsing. During the visit, the owner stated that the restaurant had been closed since the previous Sunday. At the time of the inspection, a company was observed working on the ceiling.

Days Inn & Polo Lounge, 1255 Harrisburg Pike, Carlisle, Aug. 27. Pass. Ice machine in bar area had deflector plate with black moldlike substance and was not clean to sight and touch. The ice machine in the hallway also had a black moldlike substance in the dispenser area as well as drain area.

King Street Diner, 2 W. King St., Shippensburg, Type 2 follow-up, Aug. 27. Fail. Employee observed donning single-use gloves without a prior hand-wash. Observed cook touching raw meat with a gloved hand and then handling ready-to-eat foods with the same gloved hand repeatedly. Raw eggs stored over several ready-to-eat foods. Person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this noncompliant inspection. Two pan lids used daily had food residue and were not clean to sight and touch.

717 Tacos, 3301 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, Aug. 26. Pass. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair: observed hand-wash sink leaking at the drain pipe into an empty plastic container and in need of repair. Observed the following on food contact surfaces: Can opener with dried food debris on the blade and not cleaned from the night before. A bus tub with accumulation of dried food debris coming in contact with the lids stored inside. Both violations were corrected on site.

Apna Bazar Farmers Market, 85 Gateway Drive, Mechanicsburg, follow-up, Aug. 26. Pass. No violations.

First Watch, 101 Senate Ave., Camp Hill, Aug. 26. Pass. No violations.

Jade Cafe, 328 E. Penn Drive, Enola, regular/complaint, Aug. 26. Fail. Observed excessive grease on exhaust filters, woks and deep-frying unit. One unit was removed from station and sitting in aisle because it did not work. The slot contained accumulated grease a quarter inch thick. Tabletop-mounted can opener’s blade and entire unit was soiled with old food residue. Owner/manager removed the can opener and placed it into the three-bay sink to be cleaned. Observed soiled countertops with old food residue. Observed food storage bins, and food preparation equipment with old food residue. Hand sink was not accessible because a pair of large rubber gloves were lying in it. Owner/manager relocated the rubber gloves. Walk-in cooler’s refrigeration unit had failed on the day of the inspection; temperature was 75 F while the owner/manager was awaiting the repairman. In the meantime, a case of eggs was exposed to elevated temperature. Assistant manager was instructed to discard eggs and other perishable food items. There were other items in this unit such as condiments that were also prone to spoilage. There were numerous fruit flies in the rear corner of the facility where the utility sink, mops and brooms are located. Owner/manager poured bleach down the drain when shown the infestation, but the area needs to be emptied and cleaned.

Joe’s Original Pizza, 334 E. Penn Drive, Enola, Aug. 26. Pass. No violations.

Mechanicsburg Breakfast & Pizzeria, 5315 E. Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg, follow-up, Aug. 26. Fail. Person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this noncompliant inspection. A coffee cup was observed to the right of the grill, a food preparation area; corrected on site. Food employees eating in the kitchen area as evidenced by observed partially consumed food on the shelf at the bain-marie; corrected in site. Raw chicken was held at 44 F in white upright refrigerator, rather than 41 F or below as required; corrected on site. Observed the following: Ice machine has mold on the deflector plate.; can opener has food debris and rust on the blade; production table has buildup around the mounted can opener; multiple utensils had old food debris. Multiple food ingredient storage containers not labeled with the common name of the food. Two unidentified sauces, which were refrigerated, ready-to-eat time/temperature control for safety food, in the double-door refrigerator were date-marked but expired and required discarding; corrected on site. Cutting board on bain-marie is broken in multiple pieces and needs replaced. Multiple floor mats outside the back door need removed from the area.

Pho 3 Mien, 314 10th St., Lemoyne, follow-up, Aug. 26. Pass. Observed clean serving dishes and to-go containers in the food prep area stored uncovered or not inverted; repeat violation; corrected on site.

Karns Quality Foods No. 6, 413 Forge Road, Boiling Springs, Aug. 25. Pass. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Food employees observed in meat and deli area not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats or beard covers. Observed the wall in the dairy department’s walk-in refrigerator above the entry door to be made of metal that is rusted/cracked/roughened and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Observed the chicken-breading flour storage container in the dry storage area not labeled with the common name of the food.

Nalan Indian Cuisine, 829 State St., Suite 2008, Lemoyne, Aug. 25. Pass. Food employees observed in kitchen area not wearing proper hair restraints, such as beard covers.

Pizza Grille, 901 State St., Lemoyne, Aug. 25. Pass. Observed cove-molding coming off the wall under the hand-wash sink near the dish machine and in need of repair.

Sheetz No. 201-r, 1415 S. Market St., Mechanicsburg, Aug. 25. Pass. No violations.

Snowfox at Weis No. 225, 4525 Valley Road, Enola, Aug. 25. Pass. No violations.

Subway, 447 N. Enola Road, Enola, Aug. 25. Pass. There was a water leak on the line flowing into the soda dispenser with excess water on the floor near the machine. Overall messy conditions with food debris and packaging materials on the floor. Facility needs to improve its housekeeping. There is a large air gap at the threshold plate of the rear external door that may allow pests into the building.

Vito’s Italian Ristorante, 1150 Lowther Road, Camp Hill, follow-up, Aug. 25. Pass. Observed single-service, single-use articles stored in the front area, which were not in the original protective package or inverted to protect against contamination; repeat violation. Those in prep/cook area not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats; corrected on site; repeat violation. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration; repeat violation. Floor tiles in the back dry stock area is cracked, broken and missing and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface; repeat violation. Loose rubber door gaskets observed on the walk-in cooling unit and the ice machine door; repeat violation. Observed the latch at the top of the large walk-in freezer door is broken and inoperable causing door not to stay closed. Latch must be repaired or replaced; repeat violation. Observed food ingredient storage containers, bottles and shakers not labeled with the common name of the food; repeat violation. Food facility is reusing single-serve souffle cups, which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article; repeat violation.
