Harrisburg teen steals 11 handguns from Lancaster County outdoors store: police

A Harrisburg teenager is charged with breaking into an Ephrata Township outdoors store and stealing 11 handguns during a burglary in May.

Joshua Lynn Kone Jr., 18, is facing two felony burglary charges, 11 felony counts of theft and 11 firearms violations related.

Kone and an accomplice smashed through a glass door at Musser’s Outdoors on the 400 block of Reading Road in the early morning hours of May 2, according to police.

Video surveillance footage shows Kone and the other individual taking 11 handguns from a display case and putting them into a backpack before fleeing the scene in a Subaru hatchback, later determined to be stolen, according to a criminal complaint.

Kone used an old sink on the ground outside the business to smash through the glass door and left finger and palm prints, according to police.

Ephrata police say they are currently investigating the involvement of other individuals in the burglary.

Lower Paxton Township police located one of the stolen guns May 18 while responding to a disturbance call in Dauphin County, according to a criminal complaint. The gun was found inside a vehicle Kone and three other people were using.

Lower Paxton Township police charged Kone with receiving stolen property June 25. During an interview with police, Kone admitted to being involved with the burglary at Musser’s Outdoors.

A search warrant was issued for Kone’s phone, where police say they found messages admitting to the burglary, photos of Kone and others with the stolen guns, and a GPS search for directions to Musser’s Outdoors the day of the burglary.

The palm print left on the sink was determined to belong to Kone.

Kone is in Dauphin County Prison after being unable to post $100,000 bail for his receiving stolen property charges.

His preliminary hearing in the Dauphin County case is Aug. 21.

Kone also is facing a motor vehicle theft charge in Cumberland County, according to his criminal docket for that charge. Bail in that case was set at $100,000, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

A preliminary hearing for his Lancaster County charges was not scheduled as of Wednesday.
