It was initially just a funny idea I had: put four random and pretty disparate musicians into a room and see what kind of song they would write.

After some brainstorming and planning, we reached out to four local musicians who play fairly different styles of music: Mary Baker who plays viola in a classical ensemble, Sempre Dolce, Jason Whetstone, who plays accordion as well as a number of other instruments in the folk group Big Sky Quartet, Matthew Woodson, a percussionist who performs with Big Boy Brass Band and Vincent Yarnell, an acoustic guitarist and singer of his own music as well as with Rivers.

We put them together in our performance studio and gave them 60 minutes to write something. Some of them were nervous about the idea, some embraced it. But once the session was over, they all agreed that they were glad they took part in the experiment.

We condensed their 60 minute writing session into a 16 minute video. See what happened:
