Singer-songwriter Madi Diaz, and Jonathan Groff (as part of the "Merrily We Roll Along" cast) were nominated for Grammy Awards.
Two singers with Lancaster County ties were nominated at the 67th Grammy Awards held Sunday in Los Angeles, but neither took home an award.
Ronks native Jonathan Groff was nominated in the best musical theater album category as one of the stars of last year’s Broadway revival, “Merrily We Roll Along.” The cast of “Hell’s Kitchen” won that category.
Groff, a Conestoga Valley High School grad and a stage, TV and film actor, won the Tony for his lead role of Franklin Shepard in that revival.
Groff’s co-stars in the show, “Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe and Tony winner Lindsay Mendez, were nominated for the award along with Groff.
Groff won a Grammy in 2016 for his work on the cast album of the musical “Hamilton.”
Singer-songwriter Madi Diaz, who formerly lived in Mount Nebo, Martic Township, was nominated in two Grammy categories but did not win either award.
Diaz was nominated for best Americana performance, for the song “Don’t Do Me Good,” which featured country singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves. Sierra Ferrell won the Grammy in that category for her song “American Dreaming.”
Diaz’s album, “Weird Faith,” which was released in February 2024, was also nominated for the Grammy for best folk album. Diaz performed at West Art in Lancaster city in September 2024 in support of that album. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings won for their album “Woodland.”
These were the first two Grammy nods for Diaz, who now lives and works in Nashville.
Most awards, including those for the categories in which Groff and Diaz were nominated, were given out during the Grammy “Premiere Show” that began in the afternoon and streamed live on grammy.com. The main awards show, during which such prizes as album, song and record of the year are distributed, air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ beginning at 8 p.m. EST.
This year, the Grammys have an additional mission of raising relief funds for those who lost homes in the recent L.A. wildfires.
