Chemistry Craze | 8:30am – noon

Chemistry Craze is designed to captivate the minds of young learners by introducing them to the fascinating world of chemistry.

This camp provides an engaging and interactive environment where campers going into 2nd and 3rd grade will explore foundational scientific concepts through hands-on experiments, collaborative projects, and playful activities. Campers will be immersed in topics such as states of matter, chemical reactions and mixtures, while building critical thinking skills, creativity and a deeper appreciation for how science connects to the world around them.

By fostering curiosity and encouraging exploration, this camp aims to empower children to view themselves as budding scientists, ready to ask questions, make observations, and embrace the excitement of discovery.

Splash Science: H2O! | 1 – 4:30pm
Splash Science: H2O dives into the science of water! Throughout the week, campers entering 2nd and 3rd grade will dive into the world of water—swimming in science such as chemistry, physics, and environmental sustainability through hands-on experiments, creative projects, and STEM challenges.

Campers are invited to make a splash with the Pennon Education team as we experiment with water chemistry and investigate water’s amazing properties and forms. We will discover the powerful force of water by engineering a water slide using 3D printing, building a LEGO dam, and engaging with robotics.

Campers will wade deeper into the stages of the water cycle, learn how watersheds work and understand the importance of clean water by becoming expert water testers and more! And don’t worry – swimsuits are not required! While we may get a little wet, all experiments will be on dry land.

Wave Makers: Exploring Music and Sound | 8:30am – noon

Tune in to the world of sound and technology through music and audio exploration! In this hands-on summer camp, campers entering 4th, 5th and 6th grade will explore the science of sound through tuning forks and Snap Circuits and learn about vibration, waves, frequency and amplification.

Campers will work with Pennon’s own audio professionals in the Digital Creator Studio to create their own music and original audio and discover how energy transfer shapes music production and how to “see” sound. Campers will also explore the evolution of music technology and create projects inspired by sound design and innovation. Robotics challenges, coding and 3D printing will be embedded into the week’s lessons as students create their own music and audio.

By the end of the week, campers will have gained a deeper understanding of sound, music technology and STEM concepts by applying these skills to design and developing their own creative projects. Don’t miss out, join the (sound) waves now!

This camp ties in well with lessons from the afternoon camp, Comic Creator.

Comic Creator | 1 – 4:30pm
Dive into the exciting world of comics at Comic Creator camp where campers will unleash their inner creativity to craft their own comic stories!

Campers entering 4th, 5th and 6th grade will work with professional artists and animators to design unique characters and animate their stories with speech bubbles, thought balloons and captions. They’ll learn how to use perspective and framing to set the scene, add motion and action lines to make their stories dynamic and how to visualize sound effects.

Campers will also explore the process of transforming comic and cartoon characters into animated action on the screen. Whether you’re an aspiring artist, a future animator, or a comic enthusiast, Comic Creator Camp will ignite your imagination and equip you with skills to bring your ideas to life!

This camp ties in well with lessons from the morning camp, Wave Makers: Exploring Music and Sound Camp.
