As the school year winds down, parents and guardians across the Midstate are in the midst of a frenzy, scrambling to secure spots for their kids in summer camps and activities. In an effort to ease the stress of summer activity sign-ups, The Spark (our beloved community forum) is here to offer a helping hand. Today, we were thrilled to welcome Jennifer Eley, the Director of Education, to shed light on the exciting lineup of events and programs slated for the upcoming summer season at our esteemed Public Media Center. One highlight of the summer agenda is the Innovation Studio, where young minds can dive into the realm of robotics with a diverse array of gadgets including Cubelets, Ozobots, Spheros, Dashbots, and more. From navigating Spheros across a lunar landscape to guiding Bee Bots back to their hive and coding Ozzy Ozobot’s escape from the scorching sun, there’s no shortage of interactive challenges to spark creativity and problem-solving skills. But the excitement doesn’t stop there. For aspiring pilots, the center is unveiling a state-of-the-art flight simulator, offering a hands-on opportunity to test aviation skills and delve into the fascinating world of aerodynamics.
For those inclined towards construction and design, a plethora of building materials including Legos, K’Nex, and Magna Tiles await, encouraging young builders to let their imaginations run wild. And what’s a summer adventure without a meet-and-greet with a beloved character? Families can strike a pose with Pete the Cat, capturing cherished memories to cherish for years to come. As if that weren’t enough, attendees can also browse the book giveaway table, where they’re invited to select a book to take home, fostering a love for reading and learning beyond the summer months.
Designed for children and teens aged 3 to 14, the Ready, Set, Explore STEM & Innovation learning stations promise an immersive and engaging experience for all participants, ensuring that summer break is not only fun but also enriching. So, as the countdown to summer begins, families can rest assured that the Public Media Center is primed and ready to offer a summer of excitement, exploration, and endless possibilities.
