Easter in Art explores the various depictions of the Easter story throughout the ages – from the time of the early Christians to the present day through Western art. The stunning two-part film features a parade of masterpieces by some of the greatest artists in history.
The Christian story of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ has dominated Western culture for the past 2,000 years and has been depicted by many of the most important artists in history. Easter in Art displays some of what are considered the greatest artworks ever produced.
You’ll see works by master artists such as Caravaggio, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, El Greco, Rembrandt, and many more. The film was shot on location in galleries in Jerusalem, the United States and throughout Europe.
Watch Easter in Art on Friday, April 7 from 9:58-11:30pm or Sunday, April 9 from 1:58-3:30pm on WITF TV or using the PBS or WITF app livestream. Each segment is about 45 minutes long.
