U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent Logsdon appeared on The Spark Wednesday to discuss how Moldova has been impacted by the war in neighboring Ukraine.
Ambassador Logsdon indicated that some 500,000 refugees had made their way into Moldova after Russia invaded Ukraine. There still are about 90,000 Ukrainian refugees living in Moldova.
Logsdon said Moldova’s inflation rate stands at 34% since the war began with access to energy and supply chains being significant challenges.
Most of Moldova’s electricity comes from a plant located in the Transnitria region of Moldova, which is controlled by Russia. Russian troops are in Transnitria after a “frozen” conflict that began 30 years ago.
Ambassador Logsdon described Moldova as being “concerned” about the Russian intrusion.
