Transforming Health: LGBTQ+ Health

Explore LGBTQ+ health – from the importance of gender-affirming care to equitable access to mental health services

  • Christina Zeiders

We’re all born with a biological status of male, female, or intersex. But we also have a gender identity – which is a deeply felt, internal and individual experience of gender that may or may not line up with one’s designated sex at birth.

Watch Transforming Health: LGBTQ+ Health on WITF TV Thursday, June 16 at 8pm or stream it on-demand after its premiere through the PBS Video app or online.

On Transforming Health: LGBTQ+ Health, LGBTQ+ individuals will break down the acronym and talk about what it means to them. They’ll also shed light on mental health and why folks in the LGBTQ+ community are more likely to face a mental health condition or experience suicidal thoughts.

Plus, we’ll learn about the importance of gender-affirming care and why a study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that twenty-two percent of transgender people say they’ve avoided care out of concern they would be discriminated against.

“I don’t know where it comes from. We could have a whole special on why people are so angry and why people hate and just can’t live and let live. Because if it’s not hurting you, why do you care?” – Rebecca Cox-Davenport Ph.D., CRNP, FNP-BC, Alder Health Services (she/her)

Join us for personal stories and a look inside a center that provides gender-affirming care. Watch or stream Transforming Health Thursday, June 16 at 8pm on WITF TV, the free PBS Video app, or online.
