The House Has Voted to Rescind Public Media Funding

This vote threatens federal support for programming on WITF — putting at risk educational programming, trusted news and emergency communications that our community depends on produced locally and from PBS and NPR. Now the proposal heads to the Senate.

Your voice is urgently needed. Call your senator and donate today to help protect the future of local public media.

Ananya Kannan WITF 2022 Spelling Bee Winner

Ananya Kannan WITF’s 2022 Central PA Spelling Bee winner.

Congratulations to Ananya Kannan, the winner of the 2022 WITF Central PA Spelling Bee! Ananya won with the correct spelling of the word “isagoge.” Once again the 2022 bee was held virtually due to COVID safety concerns. Although the competition wasn’t in-person, the spellers rose to the occasion.

Ananya is an eighth-grade student at Central Dauphin Middle School. She previously competed in the 2020 and 2021 Central PA Spelling Bees. Her hobbies include reading, singing, acting and dancing. She also loves animals and poetry. “Poetry, I feel is one of the most beautiful ways to express yourself,” says Ananya.

Ananya traveled to Washington D.C. this past weekend to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Unfortunately, she spelled out on the word “transcience” in the first round.

Congratulations, Ananya, on your success in the WITF’s 2022 Central PA Spelling Bee! What an accomplishment!

Watch Ananya and her fellow spellers compete in the WITF Central PA Spelling Bee on-demand or through the PBS Video app.
