Organizers cancel York St. Patrick’s Day parade for third year

The city of York will go a third year without a Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.

The parade committee is canceling the March 2022 parade because of concerns over COVID-19 and a lack of volunteers.

Organizers said the event is becoming too much for a small core of volunteers to handle. They are looking for more people to help with the 2023 parade, in areas such as marketing, accounting, fundraising, social media and event planning.

They hope with more help the tradition of turning York green for a few hours once a year will continue for decades to come.

“We believe the parade is worth saving for the sake of the thousands of people who attend and take part in it , and the numerous downtown York businesses and restaurants that benefit from it,” committee president Daniel Reilly said in a statement.

Anyone who wishes to volunteer should email the committee at YorkStPatParade@gmail.com.

All entry fees, sponsorships, and donations made to the 2022 parade will be applied to the 2023 parade unless a refund is requested in writing by mail at YSPDP, P.O. Box 1043, York, PA 17405-1043, or email YorkStPatParade@gmail.com.
