(Madison, Wis.) – The Penn State Nittany Lions open the 2021 season at the Wisconsin Badgers in a game that features two nationally ranked teams in the Big 10 today.

Last year’s shortened season also started with a Big Ten matchup at Indiana when the Lions started the year with a 36-35 overtime loss.

The last time the two teams met was in 2018.  The November 10th meeting resulted in a 22-10 Penn State victory.  The Lions lead the all-time season 10-9, with this being the seventh time both teams are ranked.

This day in Penn State Football history shows the team is 5-0 on September 4th.  All five of those previous games on this date were played at home, two of which were against Akron and one featured Temple in 1982.  That game saw an 8th ranked Lion team defeating the Owls 31-14.

Penn State was one of only two Big Ten teams to play all nine of its scheduled games during last year’s pandemic shortened season.  In 2019, the program earned its third 11-win season in four years with a record of 11-2.

Game time is 12 Noon today and will be nationally televised on FOX.
