On WITF for August

A brief overview of August television on WITF

  • Fred Vigeant

It was good to hear from many of you after we rolled out our new design of the On WITF guide. Thank you for your feedback! Per your request, one notable addition we have made is to offer the “At a Glance” grid available on the TV schedules page.

This month we bid a fond farewell to The Lawrence Welk Show. The series has been a mainstay in our schedule for many decades, thanks in part to the generosity of his fans who have watched on WITF. However, the program’s popularity has been waning in recent years which is why (like many of our PBS member station colleagues across the country) we are not renewing our contract. Instead, we premiere the Bigger British Comedy Block, with the two more British comedies in our weekly schedule. Get ready for some extra laughs when the new comedies premiere Saturday, August 28.

This month we present season finales for Unforgotten on MASTERPIECE, Professor T (the UK version) and The Indian Doctor. If you missed them or want to watch again, remember that these popular dramas are available for on-demand viewing through the PBS Video app to WITF Passport subscribers. If you donate more than $5 per month to WITF, or more than $60 annually, then you are enrolled in this member benefit. WITF Passport not only gives you additional time to watch programs that were previously broadcast, but you also earn access to some shows ahead of broadcast. Later this year, when the new Call the Midwife season premieres, WITF Passport members will be able to watch all the new episodes ahead of their weekly broadcast on WITF. Check out this member benefit today by downloading the PBS Video app to your smart phone or smart TV.

With August comes one of the four times a year we ask you for your financial support. The British comedies, the dramas and mysteries, the beautifully shot science and nature programs, the performances from Broadway and Vienna – all the programs in our schedule are made possible because of your support. Please renew your membership to WITF today at 1-800-233-9483.

Thank you for your ongoing support for everything you see on WITF TV.
