FM Schedule Change 2/09

For the first time in history, the U.S. Senate will try a former President.

Updated February 12 with timing information for Saturday

For the first time in history, the U.S. Senate will try a former President.

“All parties” have agreed to a structure for former President Trump’s impeachment trial to ensure a “fair and honest” process, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor.

On Tuesday February 9, there will be debate over the Constitutionality of the trial. This will be followed by a vote on whether to proceed with the trial at all. These proceedings are likely to last most of the afternoon and perhaps into the evening. WITF will broadcast NPR News live coverage beginning at 1:00pm.

WITF will continue to broadcast special coverage Wednesday and Thursday presuming the Senate votes on Tuesday to proceed with the trial.

House impeachment managers and Trump’s lawyers will begin to argue their respective cases. Each side will have a total of 16 hours to present over no greater than two days. Each day’s presentation is not to exceed 8 hours. There will be a vote on witnesses if House managers decide they want to call any. Special coverage is expected to go beyond Thursday, but the schedule is unclear at the time of this writing.

NPR’s Coverage will be hosted on Tuesday by Steve Inskeep and Susan Davis. Also joining the coverage in the afternoon: White House Correspondent Tamara Keith, Justice Correspondent Carrie Johnson, Senior Washington Editor and Correspondent Ron Elving. In the later part of the day, Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg, and White House Correspondent Ayesha Rascoe will join.

You can follow along with special coverage via our social media channels on facebook and twitter. You can also watch the PBS Newshour coverage via their livestream service.  You can also stream the audio simulcast through our website or ask your smart speaker to “Play WITF Radio”. WITF TV will not be impacted by special coverage and remain with regular programming.

  • Wednesday February 10 begins at noon and likely continues to the evening.
  • Thursday February 11 begins at noon and continues to the evening.
  • Friday February 12 begins at noon.
  • Saturday February 13 begins at 10:00am and is expected to wrap up around 4:00pm.
