Virtual WITF Election 2020 Event “What’s Next for PA Elections?”
Event Date: September 2, 2020
Join WITF for a panel discussion on election security and voting procedure ahead of the presidential election Wednesday, Sept. 2 LIVE at 7pm on WITF’s YouTube channel.
Pennsylvania’s election code was overhauled last fall for the first time in more than eighty years – and then the pandemic prompted even more changes. Now, still more adjustments could be warranted before Nov. 3 due to several election lawsuits, public health concerns still surrounding in-person voting and U.S. Postal Service upheaval. And don’t forget: many of those who vote in person will encounter new machines for the first time.
WITF Reporter Emily Previti will moderate a panel with:
- Chris Deluzio, Policy Director for the University of Pittsburgh Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security (Pitt Cyber)
- Forrest Lehman, Lycoming County Director of Elections and Registration
- Suzanne Almeida, Redistricting and Representation Counsel for Common Cause/Interim Director for Common Cause PA
We’ll examine the new rules governing voting in Pennsylvania, what might still change, how election officials are adjusting operations in response to the pandemic – and what it all means in this battleground state where stakes will be especially high.
