Smart Talk will be off the week of July 27.  Join us for the following documentaries at 9am (and repeating at 7pm):

  • Monday – The Invention of Race – this documentary tells the story of the construction of race, and racism, as we live with them today.
  • Tuesday – Separate and Unequal – Uprisings and riots by African Americans in 1967 left white people shocked and surprised. A presidential commission was assigned to look into why it happened. It blamed white attitudes and systematic racism. The Kerner Commission report of 1968 also outlines remedies. This documentary looks at the results of the failure to address those issues. • Wednesday – The Impact of Police Violence on Health – Explore what better policing could look like, and what role research and science might play in serious reform. This is a special episode from the on-going series The Pulse, produced by WHYY.  The series regularly runs Saturday at 6am.
  • Thursday – Finding Resilience During a Pandemic – Explore what resilience means, with stories about people facing down sometimes impossible situations, and finding a way to adapt, recover, and eventually bounce back. This is a special episode from the on-going series The Pulse, produced by WHYY.  The series regularly runs Saturday at 6am.
