(Harrisburg) — Another midstate county is furloughing employees.
York County commissioners say the move is needed because of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.
Effective Saturday, 277 people will be temporarily out of work. The county is also implementing a hiring freeze for non-essential positions.
Commissioners say the decision will save more than $700,000 each month and allow county government to concentrate funding on essential services.
They hope to bring workers back when the pandemic is over.
Earlier this week, Dauphin County announced it was furloughing more than 160 employees.
