A worker at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has tested positive for the coronavirus, the center said in a news release Saturday.
The person, who works in an outpatient practice on the medical center’s campus, is believed to have been exposed to COVID-19 by a family member and not while at work. When the person showed symptoms, they went home immediately, the center said.
Penn State Health told a “small number” of patients who may have had contact with the person to self-quarantine and check for symptoms.
“We will continue to evaluate whether these patients should be screened or tested for COVID-19 and whether further action is required,” Penn State Health said in the news release.
Penn State Health has notified the person’s coworkers, and it said people who work at the clinic are “wearing masks while around other people on campus, checking temperatures twice per day and monitoring for symptoms.”
The medical center is open to treat patients, though it has suspended elective surgeries and has adopted a policy restricting visitation.
