The Senate Has Voted to Eliminate Public Media Funding

The Senate has passed the Recissions Act of 2025, which would completely defund public media. The amended bill now heads back to the House for consideration.

This vote threatens federal support for WITF — putting at risk the educational programs, trusted news and emergency communications our community relies on, both locally and from PBS and NPR.

Your voice is urgently needed. Call your Representative and donate today to help protect the future of local public media.

Erik Thomson is George Turning on 800 Words

The Australian comedy-drama 800 Words continues on WITF.  We have been enjoying a replay of season 1 this winter.

Recently widowed Sydney newspaper columnist George Turner (Erik Thomson) sets out to make a fresh start with his teenage children by moving to the tiny New Zealand town where he vacationed as a child.

Though the family has become more accepted by the locals, in season 2 of 800 Words there are still plenty of problems for George to face, including finding a real job and, potentially, new love.

800 Words broadcasts on WITF Saturday nights beginning at 9:00 PM with back-to-back episodes through February 15.  This program is not available on-demand through our website or the PBS Video app.
