The Great Listen from Storycorps

  • Fred Vigeant

As families gather for their holiday traditions, StoryCorps presents a special highlighting the importance of documenting family history, and provide instructions on how people can record conversation during the holidays and preserve them for generations to come. This special features StoryCorps segments, plus voices of teachers and students and Dave Isay.  You can hear this special on Friday November 29 at 9:00 am & 7:00 pm.

Imagine what we’d find out if we’d just ask? Join host Audie Cornish for an hour of storytelling — and surprises — as we share the best stories gathered from the Storycorps app. Audie talks to Storycorps founder Dave Isay about how he started Storycorps, and we hear some great stories from users who have discovered the Storycorps app for the first time.

Audie also talks to Carla Hayden, the librarian of Congress about her work with Storycorps in Baltimore collecting stories following the riots after the death of Freddie Gray. And Audie’s nephew Julian Tarpey unseats Audie from the host chair to interview her about her life.

Use the Storycorps app to hear the best of over 100,000 interviews recorded across the country. The app is also a tool that allows users to record their own personal stories.

Hear The Great Listen by Storycorps Friday November 29 at 9:00 am & 7:00 pm on WITF 89.5 & 93.3.

Storycorps segments broadcast every Friday morning on Morning Edition on WITF.
