New leader coming to Carlisle Barracks

(Carlisle) — The United States Army Garrison at Carlisle Barracks is getting a new leader.

A change-of-command ceremony is slated for Friday at 9 a.m.

After two years at the helm, Lieutenant Colonel Sally Hannan will turn over command of the garrison to Army Lieutenant Colonel Courtney Short.

An historian, Short most recently served as a speechwriter for the commanding general of U.S. Army Forces Command.

She deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.

Short also has taught in the History Department at the United States Military Academy.

Garrison commanders on Carlisle Barracks acts as a sort of city manager, supporting mission operations for the installation as well as residents living on post and the surrounding military community.
