(Carlisle) — The three people sickened when a suspicious package was opened at the State Police Carlisle Station have returned to work today.
The barracks was evacuated for more than five hours yesterday after an unidentified trooper became ill, after opening an envelope addressed to him.
The incident occured shortly after 2:00 p.m.
Another trooper and a civilian employee were also affected.
In a statement, a state police spokesman says the investigation has ruled out all serious biohazards.
The agency is working with the FBI and the U.S. Postal Service to determine an origin of the envelope and what biohazard was inside.
An FBI lab is currently testing the envelope and the accompanying letter.
All three people affected were transported to the Carlisle Regional Medical Center yesterday and later released.
The Cumberland County Hazmat team cleared the scene, while firefighters checked the station’s ventilation system.
The station reopned around 7:30 p.m. last night
