(Harrisburg) — State Health officials have taken a major step toward fully implementing Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program.
The state Health Department has tested the medical marijuana patient and caregiver registry, one of the final steps needed before full implementation.
A selected group of caregivers and their patients signed up through the registry.
Among them was Dana Ulrich of Reinholds, Berks County, who is caring for her 10 year-old daughter Lorelei who suffers from epilepsy.
“We’ve been fighting for this for a long time so to finally get her registered for the program is an exciting step forward. To finally make this huge step and be able to access the medical cannabis in this state is very exciting stuff,” she said.
Other aspects of the program have already been completed, including temporary guidelines for growers, dispensaries, labs, and physicians.
The full program should be up and running by next year.
