(University Park) — Penn State’s head football coach is among those paying close attention to the latest news in the research of concussions, especially involving footrball players.

James Franklin has led the Nittany Lions football program back to national prominence, but when it comes to concussions and how to deal with them, he says the health of the athletes comes first.

“The most important thing is the health and the welfare of our student athletes,.. of anybody that’s playing the game,.. making sure that we’re making really really good decisions that’s going to take care of our guys, of our athletes,” he said.

Franklin says he’s aware of the recent reporting on concussions and the concern about long-term effects.

He says he’s proud of how Penn State is approaching the situation both on and off the field.
