(Harrisburg) — A midstate county has opened a new 411 acre park – the largest one in the county.
County gaming grants and a state grant – combined, worth more than $1.5 million – paid for the land for Dauphin County’s new Detweiler Park in Middle Paxton Township.
The Detweiler family – which once operated the Harrisburg Telegraph, WHP, and Stackpole Books – donated some of the land.
Dauphin County is planning to hold public meetings this year to come up with a master plan for the park.
It already has a farmhouse, seven miles of walking trails, and a fish hatchery.
