The good and the bad about Pennsylvania’s air

(Chicago) — The American Lung Association has issued it’s annual “State of the Air” report, looking at pollution in a number of locations, including in Pennsylvania. 

The report covered the period between 2013 and 2015.

The good news, according to American Lung Association Vice President Janice Nolen, is that many areas recorded the lowest pollution in years, but there’s still work to do.

Nolen cited Pittsburgh as an example.

“Pittsburgh has had a historic problem, especially with pollution, and I know they’ve been fighting it locally as well as using these national tools.  Pittsburgh however is still ranked 8th most polluted for year-round particle pollution, which means that even at its best level it’s one of 10 cities in the nation that failed to meet the national standards,” Nolen said.

Despite improvements cited in the report, 7 of the 25 most polluted metropolitan areas in the nation are located in Pennsylvania.
