(Harrisburg) — It’s just a week before spring and winter’s biggest snowstorm of the season is heading toward the Northeast.

A powerful nor’easter is forecast to track along the east coast bringing strong, gusty winds and heavy snow Monday evening through Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the southcentral Pennsylvania region.

The heaviest snow is expected to occur late Monday night and overnight into Tuesday.

Winds could also pick up during the storm causing blowing and drifting snow.

Total accumulation for the mid-state is expected to be 6 to 12 inches with areas east of Harrisburg receiving the higher amounts.

The National Weather Service says the heavy snow may cause significant travel disruptions, dangerous travel conditions and isolated power outages.

All of this follows one of the mildest February’s on record and temperatures reaching the 50’s and 60’s over the last several weeks.
